Local Artist Work on Display at Library

Cody Deegan, a local Fallon artist, and his class of 15 students celebrated their completion of his Basic Drawing art class at the Churchill County Library on Wednesday, July 27. Nevada prosecutors have filed new charges against Troy Driver, the man accusing of kidnapping and murdering 18-year-old Naomi Irion from Fernley, Nevada, in March. Prosecutors said Driver, a 41-year-old mining services worker living in Fallon, Nevada, abducted Irion from a Walmart parking lot on March 12 before fatally shooting her, burying her body and trying to cover up the crime.

The Churchill County Library is holding an artists’ reception on Wednesday, July 27, from 4-6 p.m. We will be displaying the results of this summer’s Drawing Classes for Adults which were taught by Cody Deegan, a local Fallon artist. The classes were held at the Churchill Arts Council and were sponsored in part by the Nevada Arts Council. Artwork from the class is on display at the library through August.

Notes from the Churchill County School Board Meeting

During the Churchill County School District Board meeting held Wednesday, July 20, trustees approved the hiring of four new classified employees. The new human resources director, Annette Cooper, reported that she held a job fair on Tuesday and met with ten new applicants however none were teachers. She said that over the last two weeks two teachers have resigned from the district because they cannot find housing.

DA adds sexual assault charge, files opposition to motion to dismiss in Driver case

The Lyon County District Attorney’s Office on Wednesday filed an amended criminal complaint adding a charge of sexual assault against Troy Driver, the man accused of kidnapping and murdering Naomi Irion. The DA’s Office also filed its opposition to the motion to dismiss filed in June by Driver’s attorneys, seeking to change the venue to Churchill County for the murder charge.

New Charges For Man Accused of Murdering Naomi Irion

Troy Driver, the man accused of killing Naomi Irion is now facing sexual assault charges in the case. The Lyon County District Attorney’s Office on Wednesday filed amended charges against Driver that now include sexual assault and being an ex-felon in possession of a gun. He was already charged with murder, robbery and kidnapping. Irion disappeared from a Fernley parking lot on March 12 and her body was found in northern Churchill County on March 25th.
