Off-duty Poteet police officer killed by suspected drunk driver in Austin

AUSTIN, Texas – An off-duty Poteet police officer was killed Wednesday morning after he was hit by an alleged drunk driver in Austin, according to Austin PD. Police responded to a call just after 2 a.m. in the 11700 block of N Mopac Expressway after someone reported that a vehicle struck a pedestrian. The area is currently a construction zone and the accident occurred on the service road.

Bakers, dessert makers win at Taste of Texas Food Show

The best bakers and dessert makers showcased their baking skills at the “Taste of Texas” Food Show, as part of the 75th annual Poteet Strawberry Festival. The food show committee was excited to have lifted last year’s COVID restrictions and return to their previous format. Debbie Ward shared that this year’s show raised nearly $57,000 for the winners and scholarship fund.
