Shooting in NW Roanoke today

On June 23, 2022 at approximately 5:30 p.m., Roanoke Police were notified by the City of Roanoke E-911 Center of a person with a gunshot wound near the intersection of Dupree Street NW and Blaney Avenue NW. Responding officers located an adult male with what appeared to be a serious gunshot wound. Roanoke Fire-EMS transported the man to Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital for treatment.

Tractor-trailer catches on fire on I-81S in Montgomery Co.

UPDATE 6:42 a.m.: Montgomery County crews have cleared the scene of Friday morning’s tractor-trailer fire along I-81 South. According to the Montgomery County Fire-EMS Department, crews from the Christiansburg Volunteer Fire Department, Christiansburg Rescue, and Riner Volunteer Rescue Squad were dispatched to the fire at mile marker 116 of I-81 South just after 4 a.m. on Friday, June 24.

At the Franklin County School Board meeting Monday, June 13, two students were recognized for their academic achievements. Windy Gap Elementary School Principal Matt Brain and art teacher Alex Queen introduced student Juliana Millard, who participated in the 2022 Spring Regional Forum Art Contest for the Blue Ridge area (Region 6) and received third place in the elementary school category.
