Kirby gives school board ultimatum on discipline policy

EDENTON — The chairman of the Chowan County Board of Commissioners has issued an ultimatum to the Edenton-Chowan Board of Education: establish a new discipline policy or face a potential reduction in local funding for schools. Area jobless rate increases to 3.9% in May; workforce increases by more than 500

For the first time since January, unemployment rose in the five-county area in May, edging up to 3.9%. N.C. Department of Commerce data released this week show 144 more workers filed jobless claims in Pasquotank, Currituck, Chowan, Perquimans and Camden than in April, raising the area’s total number of unemployed to 1,767. Librarian Finlay bids farewell to Chowan, Shepard-Pruden

EDENTON — Chowan County Librarian Jennifer Finlay bid adieu to Edenton and the Shepard-Pruden Library on May 17. After nine years at Edenton’s library, Finlay accepted a position with New Hanover County Public Library in Wilmington.
