State of Emergency issued after pipeline cyber-attack

Chowan County residents waited at local gas stations Monday event to fill up on gasoline in light of a cyber-attack that shutdown a gas line. The price of regular gas rose 10 cents over the course of 24 hours during the weekend, and was $2.64 cents at the Duck-Thru on Sunday morning. At 6:22 p.m. Monday, the price of regular gas at the Exxon in downtown Edenton was $2.79.

Alligator photographed in Tyrrell County

Chowan County resident Kathy Lane, from the Rocky Hock area, recently took photographs of a wild alligator in Tyrrell County. According to Lane, the photographs of the alligator sunning itself on a fallen pine tree were taken about 2 miles before reaching the Alligator River, in the Alligator River National Wildlife Refuge. It appeared to be 5 to 6 feet long.

People from near and far paid tribute to Chowan County Tourism Development Authority/Visit Edenton Executive Director Nancy Nicholls for her long service to the community. No new property taxes are planned for the proposed Fiscal Year 2021-22 budget presented to the Chowan County Board of Commissioners at its meeting Monday. Arbor Day honors health care workers

Town of Edenton honored local health care workers during its annual Arbor Day ceremony Friday held on the campus of Vidant Chowan Hospital and Chowan County Health Department. In a field by the facilities’ shared parking lot, a plum tree and two oak trees were in holes waiting to be filled in during the ceremony. Another plum tree, with small purple leaves, was waiting the same treatment by the health department facility.
