It was a different venue but still lots of fun and memories shared as the Mecosta County Hall of Fame inducted four new members and the Oldtimer softball team conducted its annual game against the high school all-stars on Sunday.

MECOSTA COUNTY, MI – A man was seriously injured Saturday, July 2 in an ATV crash. Shortly after 2 p.m., a Lakeview man, 58, traveling south on 100th Avenue near 5 Mile Road lost control and rolled an ATV on the road, the Mecosta County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release.

Natalie Gibson had a very impressive freshman season for Chippewa Hills' track team and is now gearing up to get ready for 2022-23. Gibson has been dealing with injuries but had success in the 400 and in some relay. He got third in the CSAA golf championship meet with a personal record of 1:04.17.

BIG RAPIDS — On a sunny afternoon vendors came out to offer their products to local residents and visitors at the Big Rapids Farmers' Market. Vendors offered a variety of items including greening plants, produce, books and trinkets for visitors looking to enjoy some time downtown.

REED CITY – Bryce Wein was swinging a strong bat all season for the Reed City Coyotes, and it paid off nicely for a team that won conference and district titles. It was his senior season and he came up with some huge hits for the Coyotes. But he indicated it was not his best baseball season compared to his junior campaign.

Chris Wernette took over as coach of a Morley Stanwood girls basketball program in the early 1980s and was able to turn it around into a championship contender that played in the Class C state quarterfinals a few years later.

Jackson Price was in Big Rapids twice last week, watching his dad Monty Price coach his Belding football team in a passing camp. Two days later, he was also at  Big Rapids watching his former Reed City teammates at another passing camp.

The 2022 Camp 911, hosted by the Retired Senior Volunteer Program is scheduled to take place from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. July 27 at the Big Rapids Department of Public Safety building, 435 N. Michigan Ave., Big Rapids.

REMUS — Heritage Days returns July 15-17 to downtown Remus, with a weekend full of events including a parade, games, inflatables and a hospitality tent. New events planned for this year include a cement pull, an Arts and Crafts vendor show, an inflatables park, a motorcycle show and a miniature horse pull.
