Mobile home destroyed in fire

On Sunday, May 15, at 6:22 p.m., crews from Alachua County Fire Rescue, High Springs Fire Rescue, and the Newberry Fire Department responded to a reported structure fire in the 23000 block of NW 102nd Ave. Upon arrival they found an unoccupied mobile home that was fully involved. The structure was a total loss. Crews were able to keep the fire from spreading into surrounding woods and structures. There were no injuries, and the cause of the fire is under investigation.

Newberry Man Arrested for Multiple Assaults

NEWBERRY ‒ Ozell Rasheem Hoyt, 29, was arrested on Tuesday, May 3 following two separate assault incidents at the same location the previous night. According to arrest reports, shortly after midnight on May 3, Hoyt arrived at the home of a woman he had previously been in a relationship with. The woman reportedly didn’t let him in because she thought he was high. About an hour later, the woman’s mother let him in and he entered the woman’s bedroom, then went to the kitchen, picked up a steak knife and went back to the bedroom while attempting to conceal the knife in his shirt. He allegedly threatened to kill the woman while walking toward her with the blade of the knife protruding from his shirt.

Marion County crash kills 1, injures 3

On Friday afternoon, a collision south of Williston along County Road 326 near NW 160th Avenue killed one person and injured three others. According to a Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) report, a 61-year-old Williston woman was driving a pickup west on County Road 326 around 2:10 p.m. behind several other vehicles when she went to pass and entered the eastbound lane of CR-326. The Williston woman was unable to pass and unable to merge back into the westbound lane when a 23-year-old Morriston woman was driving a sedan eastbound on CR-326.
