Chickasaw County closer to getting an Emergency Room

CHICKASAW COUNTY, MISS. (WCBI) – A Northeast Mississippi county that has been without an Emergency Room since 2014 may soon get one. “To be honest with you, I don’t care who it is that comes in the county, I want someone who takes a vested interest in Chickasaw County and wants to open an emergency room and provide for our citizens,” said State Sen. Ben Suber, District 8.

Pontotoc County murder suspect arrested in Houlka

HOULKA, Miss. (WTVA) - Marshals captured Pontotoc County murder suspect Joseph Bean Wednesday evening in Chickasaw County. He was arrested at approximately 5 p.m. at his mobile home in Houlka. He was wanted for the April 27 shooting death of Anteo Foote.

155-year-old Chickasaw County church finds renewed life

HOUSTON, Miss. (AP) — New Hope Church, on a country road halfway between Houlka and Okolona, was founded on Oct. 6, 1866, less than a year after the Civil War ended. On that day, Isaac Mullins and William Gaskin deeded ground to the Methodist Episcopal Church South “for the establishment of a church on that site,” according to church records. There has been a church on that site ever since.
