Chicago, IL Original
One of my favorite restaurants in Oak Brook is Labriola and has a major problem on its hands. What is going on -Photo by Frank S/ChicagoFoodKing. I have written numerous reviews stating how much I love the food here and how I think their hamburger “The Richie Burger 2.0” is the best in Illinois. However, there is a problem that I have noticed for the last couple of weeks that I have been going here. The air conditioning has not been working. I can tell you that I looked at the temperature inside and it was well over 87 degrees. The beverages that were in the open cooler were all sweating.
We love Portillo’s hot dogs and usually order a few along with an Italian beef and wash it all down with a chocolate cake shake. This time around we decided to mix it up and try some items we’ve never gotten from the famous hot dog joint. We ordered the new spicy chicken sandwich, a portobello mushroom sandwich, and an order of onion rings. It was fun to try some new things, but we left still wanting some of our old favorites. What is your go to Portillo’s order?
I am very sad today. I heard the news that my favorite restaurant in Oakbrook is closing on November 24th after their lease is up. Closed -Photo by Frank S/ChicagoFoodKing. That restaurant is Mon Ami Gabi. The restaurant has been in its current location for over two decades.

Living in Chicago we don't have many options for hiking, but just two hours from the city is Matthiessen State Park. We recently visited for the first time and enjoyed hiking and exploring this hidden gem. Matthiessen is located in Utica and is a short drive from Starved Rock State Park. We hiked down into the Dells area and walked to the waterfall. I would recommend going earlier in the year or after it rains because the waterfalls were more of a trickle on our visit. I would imagine as the leaves continue to change, this park would be a great spot for some fall foliage fun!

We celebrated Andie’s birthday in Chicago by playing tourist for the day! In this week’s vlog, it’s all about surprising Andie with spectacular views of the Windy City: We start with a water-level view from a riverboat on the Chicago River, and enjoy an AWESOME architectural tour. Then we stepped it up a bit and hopped in a private, glass-bottom gondola on the Centennial Wheel at Navy Pier, taking in amazing 360 degree views from 200 feet in the air! Going even higher still, we continued the skyline views over a romantic dinner – 70 floors up at Cité in Lake Point Tower. Finally, we closed out our day with the most spectacular view of all: a gorgeous sunset from atop Willis Tower (or Sears Tower, depending who you ask 😉), as we step out onto The Ledge at Skydeck! That’s only 1.5” of glass between us and a 103 floor drop down to Wacker Drive! | For more, follow our adventures in real time on Instagram Stories! http://www.instagram.com/stephenandandie 📷

Chicago is one of the great food cities of the world, and we chose to explore the city by visiting several of its international neighborhoods’ best-known food offerings. From a Mexican breakfast in Pilsen, to sweets at a French/Asian fusion bakery in Chinatown. Bánh mi in Little Vietnam to Italian lemonade at a famous spot in Little Italy. Greektown, we see you! Saganaki. Moussaka – it’s what’s for dinner! And of course, no trip to Chicago would be complete without some famous Chicago-style popcorn from Garrett Popcorn Shops! | For more, follow our adventures in real time on Instagram Stories! http://www.instagram.com/stephenandandie 📷

Lincoln Park zoo is one of the most iconic spots in downtown Chicago! We love popping in for the afternoon and seeing what the animals are up to. We feel so lucky that we can take advantage of visiting this beautiful zoo whenever we want and it's free! They have been doing some renovations in recent years, so be on the lookout for some remodeled exhibits when you visit! They do have events throughout the year including zoo lights in the winter!
