14-year-old facing felony hit-and-run in weekend Sioux Falls crash

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (Dakota News Now) - A 14-year-old girl is facing a felony charge after a hit-and-run crash in south Sioux Falls on Sunday. Sioux Falls Police say the 14-year-old driver and eight other juveniles were traveling in a 2014 Ford Escape at a high rate of speed near Minnesota Avenue and Sunnymede Lane at around 1:30 am. The Escape was traveling north in the southbound lane when it struck a 2011 Toyota Avalon, according to police.

Madison Central School Board approves three-year contracts for the district’s Superintendent and Business Manager

The Madison Central School Board on Monday approved three-year contracts for the district’s Superintendent and Business Manager. The board held an executive session to discuss the contracts at the end of it’s regular meeting. Board members then approved a motion setting Superintendent Joel Jorgenson’s contract for next year at 129-thousand-387 dollars, with a five-thousand dollar increase in each of the next two years after that. As far as Business Manager Mitchell Brooks, the board approved a motion setting his salary at 86-thousand-564 dollars for next year, with three-thousand dollar increases in each of the following two years after that.

Two people are injured in a Sunday morning accident at Highway 14 and 457th Avenue, west of Volga. Brookings County Assistant Sheriff Scott Sebring says a pickup driven by 35-year-old Heather Runia of Brookings was headed north on 457th and failed to stop for the stop sign. The pickup collided with an SUV driven by 27-year-old Eli Hudgens of White.
