Columbus man killed in crash in Parsons

PARSONS, Kan. – A man from Columbus is dead following a two vehicle crash in Parsons. The crash occurred just before 5:00 this evening at the intersection of 16th Street and Corning Avenue. A car driven by a girl from Mound Valley collided with a motorcycle driven by 52-year old Phillip Moore of Columbus. Moore’s motorcycle turned on it’s side following the crash. Moore was killed in the crash. The driver and two passengers of the other car were not injured.

Coffeyville Man Arrested After Standoff

A Coffeyville man was arrested early Saturday morning after a standoff with the Coffeyville Police Department. At approximately 5:30 am, while on patrol, a Coffeyville officer recognized a subject who had a felony warrant. When officers attempted to make contact with the subject, he fled on foot into the apartment complex courtyard at 403 W. 9th where he barricaded himself on a balcony and threatened to shoot anyone that approached him. The apartment complex was evacuated by officers and the complex manager. Deputies from the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office were called in to assist and a crisis negotiator was called to the scene.

Labette County High School hosts its first girls wrestling camp

ALTAMONT, Ks. – Labette County High School is providing a brand-new opportunity for girl wrestlers, through a two-day wrestling camp. “Nobody’s ever really truly done this before in the state of Kansas,” says Labette head wrestling coach, Jason Storm. “I came up with this idea, started throwing it out to some coaches and started to get a lot of positive responses.”

Robert E. ‘Bob’ Adams

Robert E. “Bob” Adams, 82, of rural Parsons passed away at 1:50 p.m. Thursday, June 10, 2021, at Mercy Hospital in Joplin. He was born on May 5, 1939, to Robert Eugene and Elsie (Foreman) Adams in Parsons. While growing up on the family farm in rural Labette County, he attended school and showed cattle in 4-H and FFA. In 1958, Robert graduated from Labette County Community High School and then he attended Labette County Junior College for a year and also served in the National Guard.
