Beyond the Call of Duty makes stop in Sheffield to honor Sgt. Nick Risner

Nonprofit organization Beyond the Call of Duty travels more than 22,000 miles a year for their EOW Ride to Remember. On Tuesday, they stopped in Sheffield. "I was looking at the pictures today, and I was thinking all of these families are going through what I am going through, and it's so sad," Sgt. Nick Risner's mom, Vicki Risner, said.

Fireworks are on July 1 this year

FLORENCE – Singing River Media Group and the city of Florence are excited to announce that the “39th Spirit of Freedom Celebration” will kick off Independence Weekend in McFarland Park with fireworks and live music on Friday, July 1. Alabama officers who died in line of duty in 2021 honored in End of Watch Ride to Remember

Four Alabama law enforcement officers are being remembered as part of a countrywide tour to remember officers who died in the line of duty in 2021. The End of Watch Ride to Remember stopped first in north Alabama Tuesday to honor Sheffield police Sgt. Nick Risner, who died Oct. 2, 2021, following a shootout in Muscle Shoals. On Wednesday, the tour stopped first in Birmingham to honor Jefferson County Sheriff’s Deputy Willie Hall, who died Sept. 14, 2021, of COVID-19.

Student Anglers Compete In National Championship

Local student angler teams participated in the High School National Championship held in Florence, Alabama. The Nationals was combined with the World Finals for one big family friendly event from June 21st to June 25th. There were about 416 boats registered from 40 states, including Hawaii, while others came from Canada and some traveled all the way from Zimbabwe, South Africa. There were more than 2.6 million dollars in scholarship offers and prizes up for grabs to win during this record-breaking event.
