Renton man pleads in Entiat molestation case on morning of trial

WENATCHEE — A Renton man pleaded guilty Tuesday morning to a charge of child molestation, just as his trial was about to begin in Chelan County Superior Court. Mark Darren Starman, 55, pleaded to third-degree child molestation, avoiding trial on a first-degree charge. Jury selection had just begun for his trial this week.

$10.4 million coming to Central Washington Airports

PASCO, Wash. — Central Washington Airports, spanning from Pasco to Omak will receive $10.4 million in FAA Grants. On Tuesday, U.S. Senator Maria Cantwell (D-WA) applauded the efforts from the Department of Transportation, and Federal Aviation Administration who awarded 10 grants to airports throughout Central Washington. The $10.4 million will go towards renovations for airports in Franklin, Okanogan, Chelan, Grant, Walla Walla and Yakima counties.

Dick Gordon to speak at Lake Chelan Historical Society’s annual meeting May 23

CHELAN - The Lake Chelan Historical Society will be hosting its Annual meeting Monday, May 23 at 6 p.m. The gathering will be held at the Lake Chelan Chamber of Commerce, with Dick Gordon sharing the story of the Gordon Family settlement in Chelan in the late 1800's. Dick's family musical group known as Daybreak Canyon Bluegrass will provide entertainment.

Jamie Pancho named Chelan High School principal

Jamie Pancho (blue jacket) will be taking over the principalship at Chelan High School effective July 1. Jamie is finishing his third year as the principal at Newport High School. Prior to his principal appointment at Newport, he served as a fourth grade teacher (at Stratton Elementary), Special Education teacher (Newport High School), and paraprofessional (Newport High School). He earned his master’s degree in 2019 from Washington State University and bachelor’s degree from Whitworth in 2004. An outbreak of avian influenza first seen in backyard chicken flocks May 4th has now been detected in Okanogan County and A Pro-choice rally Saturday in downtown Wenatchee drew hundreds of protesters.

Our Valley Our Future Conducting Housing Survey

Residents of Chelan and Douglas County are invited to participate in a housing survey being put on by Our Valley Our Future (OVOF). Coordinator Steve Maher said OVOF wants to get a better picture of the housing challenges facing those within the region as well as their experiences in the market.

State baseball seedings and schedules are set

State Baseball begins this weekend with regional action Saturday. The 4A Tournament is in Richland for Moses Lake. They’ll face Curtis at 10am. The Bombers face Mount Si in the second game at 1. The winners of the first two games will face off for the Regional Championship at 4 o’clock with that winner advancing to the State semifinals.

The Chelan Mountain Goat Boys Tennis team starts district play today at Harmony Meadows in Manson. In the boys division, the 2B schools combine with the 1A division. The first two rounds of play will be held today at Harmony Meadows in Manson, while the final two rounds of district play will be held on Friday at Lake Chelan Shores. The boys are competing for the chance to play in the state tournament. Both days of districts start at 2:00pm. The brackets and order of play can be found below.
