Cottonwood Falls Woman arrested following early morning accident on West Highway 50 Saturday

A Chase County woman has been arrested after a vehicle rollover on West Highway 50 early Saturday morning. According to Lyon County Sheriff’s Deputy Brandon Early, Deputies and Emporia State University Police and Safety responded to the 500 block of W. Highway 50 for a report of an overturned vehicle shortly after 2 am. Following an initial investigation, it was determined that 42-year-old Randee L Jones of Cottonwood Falls was traveling westbound on the highway when she collided with a water barrier.

Chase County woman arrested for DUI after vehicle overturns on US-50

A Chase County woman was arrested on suspicious of driving under the influence early Saturday morning after a single-vehicle rollover on W. US Highway 50. According to a written release from Lyon County Sheriff's Deputy Brandon Early, at approximately 2:03 a.m. Saturday, emergency personnel were dispatched to the 500 block of W. US-50 for reports of an overturned vehicle in the construction zone.

CORONAVIRUS: Area counties note slight caseload increases

Small caseload increases continue for area counties as the coronavirus pandemic continues. Chase County added three cases to move its overall total to 209 in the community category. There is one active case and there have been three deaths. There have also been three cases of the B.1.1.7 UK variant.

Folklife Festival returns to Cottonwood Falls

A blast from the past was in Cottonwood Falls last weekend at the Chase County Courthouse. The Folklife Festival is an annual event that people from all over the country attend, and the event gives people a break from the modern world so that they can go back into the past for a weekend.

Emporia Community Foundation celebrates 25th anniversary

The Emporia Community Foundation is finally celebrating its 25th anniversary. Originally set to be held in 2020, the celebration was put off due to COVID-19 and three years of planning and preparations were put on hold. ECF volunteers and staff regrouped and the 25+1 Celebration was scheduled for June 18.

CORONAVIRUS: USD 284 Chase County announces COVID Reopening Plan

USD 284 Chase County’s Board of Education has passed a COVID Reopening Plan. The board is making masks optional and is allowing patrons or outside groups to use its facilities, although these groups need to fill out a Facilities Use Form for district approval. Increased disinfection measures will continue. For summer weight programs, participants will continue in cohorts with current cleaning procedures continuing.

CORONAVIRUS: Minor caseload increases reported for area counties

Minimal coronavirus activity has been reported in area counties over the last week. The Kansas Department of Health and Environment says Chase County has 274 cases, unchanged from a week ago. The KDHE total includes a running total of community cases and past outbreaks at Chase County Care and Rehab and the Chase County Jail. Chase County hasn’t issued its weekly update for community cases, which was at 205 a week ago. Three people have died, or no change from a week ago.

This Memorial Day consisted of reflecting on the lives of fallen servicemen and women during a ceremony held at the Slope Park sale barn on Monday morning. Preliminary hearing for Chase County exploitation suspect delayed Featured

The Cedar Point man accused of having child pornography in his possession was set for a preliminary hearing Friday. That has now been delayed. Leland Turner, 71, was arrested earlier this month. Court documents provided to KVOE News indicate an investigation by Chase County deputies began after relatives found a flash drive allegedly containing child porn. Deputies say the flash drive had over 150 images of children, both male and female ranging in age from approximately four months to 15 years old.
