LaFayette man charged with sexual abuse of a child after investigation by Auburn Police

A LaFayette man is facing a felony charge of sexual abuse of a child less than 12 years old, according to the Auburn Police Department. Shawvokie Zacchaeus Williams, 40, is facing the felony charge after an investigation by APD found that a child under the age of 12 was subjected to inappropriate sexual contact by an adult man, and police said they identified Williams as the suspect.

Brooks retires after seven years at probate office

LaFAYETTE — Friday was the final day for Nannette Brooks as the chief clerk in the office of Chambers County probate judge. She’s retiring from the county government after seven years of service and plans to spend more time in the ministry. Bradshaw-Chambers Library to host online summer program

VALLEY — Bradshaw-Chambers County Library has a couple of fun ways people can learn about the Valley area’s involvement in World War II. This year marks the 80th anniversary of the U.S. involvement in that war. It began with the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor on Dec. 7, 1941. Two programs relating to the U.S. in World War II are being offered this summer. There’s an Online History Club that’s open to all age groups and History Unboxed that’s for those in the 8-16 age group.

East Alabama Lumber Company wants to rebuild its sawmill in LaFayette, according to Chambers County Development Authority Community Development Manager Chris Busby. Charter Foundation begins vote to award grant

VALLEY — Three organizations from Lanett, Valley and West Point will be receiving $5,000 from the Charter Foundation, and voting is underway to determine who wins. Voting will continue through July 31 and is limited to residents of Troup, Harris and Chambers counties. Each person can vote one time and can vote for up to three organizations..
