Karen Louana Grimes, age 79, Carl Junction, Missouri, passed away early Tuesday, June 21, 2022, at Webb City Health and Rehab. Karen was born on December 26, 1942, in Miami, Oklahoma the daughter of the late Bronson Edwards and Daisy (Bonner) Edwards. She was a 1960 Graduate of Miami High School, and then earned her associates degree from Northeastern Oklahoma A&M College. She married Charles Grimes on November 3, 1963, in Miami, Oklahoma he preceded her in death on March 28, 2022. Karen was a Special Education Teacher for the Carl Junction School District and then a Joplin Head Start teacher for many years until her retirement. She was a member of the Ottawa Tribe of Oklahoma and extremely proud of her Native American heritage. She enjoyed gardening, crafts, and spending time at the Carl Junction Senior Center.

The Coaching carousel continues to swing around Northeast Oklahoma. This summer has seen several area schools make coaching changes in various sports. Nowata High School has now added itself to list as the school has posted opening for baseball and softball coach. Josh Whisler served as the coach for both sports during the previous school year—his only year with the school.
