SPEARFISH — The South Dakota Department of Transportation (DOT) will make changes to the intersection of U.S. Highway 85 and Colorado Boulevard in Spearfish. An all-way stop will be installed at the intersection on Wednesday. Travelers should be aware of DOT crews working in the area and the change in traffic conditions.

STURGIS — Those attending the 82nd Sturgis Motorcycle Rally will again be able to have a beer or wine on downtown city streets. The Sturgis City Council has approved open container in areas along and either side of Sturgis Main Street for the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally from Aug. 5-14.

LEAD — Crews from Evergreen Skateparks have started work on Lead’s newest recreation addition, located at the end of Washington Street, near the Rod & Gun Club. Project Manager Richie Conklin, of Evergreen, reports that the project is on schedule to be completed by the first week in August.

SPEARFISH — At approximately 2 p.m. Friday, Spearfish police received notification of a two-vehicle accident at the intersection of Jackson Boulevard and Canyon Street. According to the Spearfish Police Department, the crash involved a 2019 Chevrolet Trax, driven by William Lee, 84, of Spearfish, and a 2007 Chrysler PT Cruiser driven by a 15-year-old male, also of Spearfish. A juvenile male passenger of the PT Cruiser received an injury to his hand. He was transported to Spearfish Monument Hospital by the Spearfish Emergency Ambulance Service where he was treated and released. Sunshine Towing responded to the scene and had to remove both vehicles. The Spearfish Fire Department responded to the scene to assist with cleanup. The juvenile male driver of the PT Cruiser was cited for careless driving. It was determined that speed was a factor in this event.

SPEARFISH — Spearfish Post 164 dropped both ends of a varsity Legion baseball doubleheader against Yankton, Monday, at Black Hills Energy Stadium. Yankton won the first game 9-4 and held on for an 11-10, nine-inning victory in the nightcap. That second game included a late Post 164 extra-inning rally that came up just short, along with an earlier triple play by the Spearfish defense.

LEAD — Lead city crews plan to be finished building the new horseshoe pits by the end of this week, and just in time for the annual Gold Camp Jubilee celebration, according to Public Works Director Jason Bauernfiend. The horseshoe pits were moved to the location across the highway from the tennis courts in order to make space for the new skateboard park that is currently under construction.

DEADWOOD — A Spearfish man, alleged to have punched a 3-year-old child in the face and dragged him up the stairs on his bike, later punching the child’s mother in the face, as well as causing her other injuries, pleaded not guilty to the charges against him June 21 before 4th Circuit Court Judge Eric Strawn at the Lawrence County Courthouse.

LEAD — The classic tale of the Lion King will come alive in Lead, as 31 children, ranging in age from 6 to 17, bring the production to the stage. The Lion King Jr. at the Homestake Opera House is a remake of the classic Broadway musical. It includes all of audiences’ favorite songs and characters, including “Just Can’t Wait to be King,” “The Circle of Life,” and more.
