SOLANO COUNTY, Calif (KTXL) — A California Highway Patrol officer saved an injured fawn Saturday. According to a tweet from CHP Solano, officer Ensley responded to a call of an injured animal with its head stuck in a fence. He was able to free the scared animal.

Missoula Hellgate grad Adam Peterman wins Western States 100 in debut attempt

MISSOULA — Adam Peterman went into the Western States 100-mile endurance run having never attempted a run of that magnitude. The Missoula Hellgate graduate and Missoula-based pro runner sponsored by HOKA, in his own words in an interview with the Missoulian and in May, has had to learn on the fly the past year in his first year of pro trail and ultra running. He hadn't lost an endurance race in the last year before he embarked on the prestigious Western States 100-miler — and he wouldn't lose this one either.

An Auburn man was arrested June 17 on suspicion of carrying a concealed weapon in a vehicle at the Speedway gas station in Newcastle. The Placer County Sheriff’s Office reported a deputy observed two males sitting in a vehicle at the gas station with open containers of alcohol just before 10 p.m. and told them having open containers of alcohol in a vehicle was against the law.

Competitors weigh in on the most challenging part of Western States Trail

With more than 18,000 feet of climbing and 22,000 feet of descent, the Western States Trail is one of the hardest ultra-running courses in the world. From the start, Western States Endurance Run competitors will climb nearly 3,000 feet in just five miles before descending another 2,000 just after the 10-mile mark. By the time runners reach that point, they will be just one-tenth of the way done with the race.

Crews Contain Fire Near Sheridan, Evacuations Lifted

5:36 p.m. UPDATE: The Placer County Sheriff’s Office says that all mandatory evacuation orders have been lifted for the area of Ranch House Road and voluntary evacuations along Camp Far West to 10th Street are no longer in effect. Firefighting crews have gained control over the fire. EARLIER UPDATE: SHERIDAN (CBS13) – Evacuations are underway in Placer County due to two spot fires. The forward progress of one of the fires was stopped at around 25 acres. The second fire has grown to about 30 acres, CAL FIRE Nevada-Yuba-Placer Unit reports. Mandatory evacuations have been ordered along Ranch House Road in the town of Sheridan, the Placer County Sheriff’s Office tweeted. The area of Camp Far West to Ranch House Road is also under an evacuation warning. No structures are being threatened. This is a developing story.

Auburn Folsom Road repairs coming soon

City of Auburn officials are working with contractors to schedule dates next month for repair work on one of the city’s busiest roads. Public Works Manager Mengil Deane said there will be two sets of roadwork, an overlay and slurry seal, which should start in July. He said the overlay work will begin in early July, and the slurry seal will occur in late July.
