Public Meeting to be held on Orientation of Relocated Skatepark

A meeting to gain input on the skatepark relocation at Riverside Park will be held on Wednesday, June 29 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at City Services Center, 500 15th Ave. SW. Skatepark and park users, neighbors, council and interested citizens are invited to attend and provide feedback on the orientation, layout and flow of the relocated skatepark, and features that must be replaced.

Noelridge Aquatic Center to Open Saturday

Noelridge Aquatic Center will open to the public on Saturday, June 18. It will be the fifth outdoor pool in Cedar Rapids open for summer swimming. The pool has been closed for a mechanical repair. While temperatures are hot this week, opening prior to the 18th is not possible due to completion of the repair and necessary staff training. All other pools are operational and able to accommodate increased attendance. Splash pads are also available at Cedar Valley Park, Cleveland Park, Daniels Park, Greene Square, Hayes Park, Hidder Park, Jacolyn Park, Noelridge Park, Redmond Park, Time Check Park and Twin Pines Park. City Council Adopts Display of Flags Policy

June 14 is marked in the United States as Flag Day, recognizing the adoption of the flag of the United States on June 14, 1777. During today’s council meeting, the Cedar Rapids City Council adopted a Display of Flags policy to govern when commemorative, special occasion and other ceremonial flags may be flown on flagpoles at City-owned properties.

Four Cedar Rapids Pools to Open Saturday

Following months of diligent recruiting efforts by City staff to combat a lifeguard shortage, the City of Cedar Rapids is excited to announce that four municipal pools will open on Saturday, June 4. This is a substantial accomplishment as pool operations in many cities across the country have been scaled back due to the nationwide shortage. Cedar Rapids has not operated more than three pools since 2019. Cherry Hill Aquatic Center and Bever, Ellis, and Jones Pools will open with schedules for lap swims and open swims posted on the City’s website at CityofCR.org. Bender Indoor Pool is also open.

Rollin' Recmobile Begins Schedule on June 4

The Cedar Rapids Parks and Recreation Department’s Rollin’ Recmobile will begin its summer schedule on Saturday, June 4 as part of the City’s Resident Appreciation Day at the Downtown Farmers’ Market. This year, two Rollin’ Recmobile vans will bring recreation equipment, games, and staff to lead activities at parks, expanding opportunities for kids. There is no cost to participate.

CRPD Chief Wayne Jerman is IPCA Executive of the Year

Cedar Rapids Chief of Police Wayne Jerman has been named "Law Enforcement Executive of the Year" for 2021 by the Iowa Police Chiefs Association (IPCA). He received the recognition from the IPCA at their annual conference Thursday night in Coralville. The award recognized his contributions many to the City and the State of Iowa since coming to Cedar Rapids in 2012.

Cherry Hill Aquatic Center Will Open May 28

The Cedar Rapids municipal pool swimming season will begin this weekend with pre-season swimming at Cherry Hill Aquatic Center on Saturday, May 28; Sunday, May 29; and Monday, May 30 (Memorial Day). Previously, the Parks and Recreation Department planned to open Noelridge Aquatic Center this weekend, but this has changed to Cherry Hill due to a mechanical issue at Noelridge. Lap swims at Cherry Hill will be held from 11:45 a.m.-12:45 p.m. each day, and open swims from 1:00-6:00 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday, and from 1:00-5:00 p.m. on Monday. The pool may close early if there are 50 people or less in the facility for a period of one hour, lightening/severe storm in the area, when the bather limit is reached, or if air temperature is below 70 degrees. Noelridge and Cherry Hill Aquatic Centers will open for daily swimming on Saturday, June 4. Bever, Ellis and Jones Pools are scheduled to open on June 11. Daily schedules will vary by pool. Schedules will be available on the City’s website at CRREC.org prior to opening.

Cedar Rapids Park Splash Pads Open May 28

Cedar Rapids, IA – May 20, 2022 – The Cedar Rapids Parks and Recreation Department will turn on the splash pads in the parks on Saturday, May 28. Splash pads are located at Cedar Valley Park, Cleveland Park, Daniels Park, Greene Square, Hayes Park, Hidder Park, Jacolyn Park, Noelridge Park, Redmond Park, Time Check Park and Twin Pines Park. The spray features are activated when a hand is run across the sensor on the fire hydrant or the button is pressed to activate the water.
