Woman arrested in 2020 Montgomery homicide case

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WSFA) - An arrest has been made nearly 18 months after Montgomery police opened a homicide investigation into the death of a 29-year-old Montgomery man. Montgomery police have arrested and charged Dae’ja Powell, 24, of Texas, with murder for the Dec. 28, 2020 death of Keith Spells. Montgomery’s 66th homicide victim of that year was found dead that Monday morning in the 400 block of Arthur Street.

Arrest made in Wednesday Montgomery robbery

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WSFA) - Montgomery police say a suspect has been taken into custody following a robbery Wednesday morning. Montgomery Police Capt. Saba Coleman said officers responded to the 4300 block of Troy Highway around 8:15 a.m. regarding a robbery. There, officers spoke with the caller who said an unknown, armed suspect demanded property and then fled.

The historic Martin's Restaurant will keep its business license

Martin's Restaurant has been around for nearly a century, and it isn't going anywhere. At least not today. Two weeks after the Montgomery City Council voted to strip the business license from the historic eatery for failure to pay local sales taxes, city officials said Tuesday that the owner of Martin's has now paid back taxes and the account is current. The Cloverdale meat-and-three has served up fried chicken, sweet tea and other Southern staples since the 1930s, catering to political leaders and other state figures through the decades.
