After 39 years running Ward’s Store & Bakery, Patti Ward has made the hard decision to put the business up for sale. “I’ve made a very difficult decision with lots of prayers and the guidance of God to sell my historic family business,” said Patti. “In my heart I know this is the best thing to do for De Smet to revitalize with new blood. I will miss my business. I have worked at this store since I could read the numbers on the cash register. Our store has been in my family for 65 years.”

Huron 13U sweeps Brookings in twinbill

BROOKINGS - The Huron 13U Teener team traveled to Brookings and swept a pair of games Tuesday against Brookings’ Bombers Maroon team. The first game kicked off with a bang, as Huron scored nine runs in the top of the second inning, only to have the home team answer with six runs in the bottom of the inning. The Tigers were able to add two runs in the fourth and six in the sixth to seal a 15-10 victory.

At Monday nights Huron City Commission meeting commissioner Mark Robish announced an additional stop sign will be placed on 3rd street for safety concerns. City approves cost increase in PVC pipe

HURON — The Huron City Commission approved a significant change order for the wastewater treatment plant project as part of its proceedings Monday evening. City engineer Brett Runge presented the change order to Gridor Construction, Inc. for an increase of $104,864 to the commission with the explanation that it was for the increasing cost of PVC pipe for the project.

The Campbell Straw Bale Museum meeting was held Monday, June 20, at the Prairie Inn with Norbert Moldan conducting the meeting. The treasurer’s report was presented by Sally Madison. Straw Bale Days were discussed; the theme will be Settlers’ Days. Straw Bale Days are August 6-7 with many activities arranged for the weekend. Plans are to serve sloppy joes at the museum July 22-23. The museum served hot dogs and lemonade at the T-Ball games at the park on Tuesday evening.
