ROANOKE, VA. (WFXR) — It has been a sad week for Mill Mountain Zoo as they mourn the passing of red wolf Argo, and bald eagle Eleanor. Argo had a calm and curious personality. She first arrived in 2011 and was transferred to the Wolf Conservation Center in South Salem NY in 2016. Argo was returned to Mill Mountain Zoo just a year later with another wolf, Moose after a failed breeding attempt.

FRANKLIN COUNTY, Va. (WDBJ) - A Wirtz woman has been identified as the victim in a crash Wednesday morning. Erin Sheree Jones, 45, died after being taken to a hospital. Virginia State Police say the crash took place at 10:43 a.m. July 6 on Virginia 116/Jubal Early Highway, just south of Silver Lake Road in Franklin County.

She re-joined her beloved husband, Charles Francis DeBusk, to whom she was married for 49 years, her father Lionel Hill Northington, mother Mary Virginia Fleming Northington, sister Saluda Northington Poe, brothers Rudolph Northington, and Lionel Frederick Northington. Just before midnight July 3, Roanoke Fire-EMS was called to a reported fire at a hotel in the 600 block of Orange Ave NE. Crews found smoke coming from a first floor room in a portion of the building that was unoccupied, with many rooms boarded up, according to hotel staff.

Anne Marie Green has stepped up to run for Salem City Council after more than thirty years serving Roanoke County. She is in the running for one of two available council seats and is running against three others – two of which are incumbents. She cites her late husband, Mac Green’s, two decade career as Vice Mayor as influential to her decision to run. Green has served as the Public Information Officer, Director of General Services, and Director of Human Resources in her time with Roanoke County. Green is familiar with the process of local government and hopes to make that process more transparent and efficient for Salem Residents.

Details from Roanoke Fire-EMS on a late Sunday night structure fire in the 600 block of Orange Ave NE, in a hotel near the Berglund Center. Units arrived to find smoke coming from a first floor hotel room, in a portion of the hotel that was unoccupied, with some rooms boarded up. Fire damage was limited to one room and smoke damage to five hotel rooms. There were no injuries. The total cost of damages is estimated at $15,000. Upon investigation a suspect was arrested on-scene by the Roanoke City Police Department.
