Marking the Walking Trail

The Rotary Club of El Dorado recently spent a Saturday morning collecting trash and painting mile markers on the El Dorado Bike/ Walking Path. With access points located at E. 12th, East Park, North Main Park and Par Drive, the path provides 6.3 miles of safe, enjoyable entertainment and exercise for the whole family.

Danny Lee Kirkpatrick

Danny Lee Kirkpatrick, age 49, was born November 30, 1972 in El Dorado, KS. He passed away unexpectedly at home on May 7, 2022 in Chapman, KS. Dan was the son of Willis and Betty (Kimball) Kirkpatrick. His early years were spent in Whitewater, KS where he had fond memories of small town life. His family moved to Scott City, KS when Dan was a sophomore. This was a difficult move for him, but he made lifelong friends, was part of 3 state championship football teams, and fell in love with his future wife before he graduated from Scott Community High School with the class of 1991. Dan continued his education at Bethany College while also playing basketball and baseball, graduating in 1995. He later obtained his masters in Educational Psychology from Kansas State University in 2007.

Driver injured in Butler County crash

Butler County deputies said a Towanda man was injured when his SUV collided with a Kansas Department of Transportation vehicle east of Benton. The accident was reported shortly after 2:30 p.m. Monday on K-254 near Tawakoni Road. Deputies said an SUV was trying to pass a tractor with a rear mower attachment. The SUV swerved into the tractor and then slid sideways, overturning into a ditch. The tractor went into the south ditch and hit a tree.

El Dorado promotes Brandon Wise to head coach

The USD 490 school board formally approved offensive coordinator Brandon Wise as the new head coach for the El Dorado High School football team. Wise, who has been the OC for the last three seasons in El Dorado under former head coach Wes Bell, earned the promotion through his explosive offense. Over the last three seasons, the Wildcats averaged 24.9 points per game. Over the last two years, as the Wildcats won eight games, his offenses averaged 27.7 ppg.
