Weekly Update: New COVID cases decreasing in 8-county lakes area, weekly deaths statewide remain elevated

Two of the eight northwest Minnesota lakes area counties, Becker and Mahnomen Counties, reported slight increases in their new COVID-19 weekly case totals. The remaining six area counties experienced modest decreases in new weekly cases over the past seven days compared to the previous week. However, COVID-related deaths statewide increased 22%, from 111 to 135 deaths this week, compared to the previous seven days.

Weekly Update: COVID spikes in five area counties, hit highest levels since December

Since Sept. 29, 2021, the state reported an additional 21,153 COVID-19 cases, totaling 729,334 for the entire pandemic, an increase of 4,639 new cases statewide, or 28%, over the previous week. Also, 103 new deaths were reported by the state in the last seven days, totaling 8,243 for the entire pandemic. Currently, Becker County reported 286 active cases, a decrease of 21 active cases since Sept. 29. Clay, Hubbard, Wadena, Norman and Mahnomen Counties reported their highest weekly new COVID-19 case totals since December. Statewide COVID-19 data is not being released on Saturdays and Sundays.
