3 Lamar murder suspects now indicted in Oklahoma homicide case

LAMAR, Mo. / MAYES COUNTY, Okla. – Three southwest Missouri men in an Oklahoma indictment also face murder charges in Lamar, Missouri. Both crimes happened in July of 2020. On Friday, July 23, 2021, a grand jury indicted four more suspects in the kidnapping and death of an Osage Nation resident. Two people killed and five injured in passenger van crash near Newton over the weekend

(AP) – Authorities have identified two people killed in the crash of a passenger van near Newton that also injured five others. The Kansas Highway Patrol says 35-year-old Stephanie Manyseng and 43-year-old Rudy Perez-Marcial, both of Wichita, died in the Saturday morning crash. Investigators say the crash occurred when the 16-passenger van carrying seven people went off Interstate 135 between two bridges, down an embankment and hit a bridge pillar. Officials have said it’s unclear why the van left the road. Officials say Manyseng and Perez-Marcial died at the scene. Two others were critically injured and three others were seriously injured.

Prices for propane have gone up instead of down this year

JOPLIN, MO – Prices for propane typically go down during the summer, but that’s not the case this year. Unlike in past summers where the price of propane goes down around $1, they are actually going up this year. Currently, the price of propane in Missouri is $1.97 per gallon.

New Webb City hotel in Centennial Park holds soft opening

WEBB CITY, Mo. — The first hotel to be built in Webb City in several decades is now open and ready for guests. Sleep Inn & Suites Webb City by Choice Hotels at 221 S. East St. had a soft opening last week at 98% complete. A few last details, such as paint touch-ups and decorating, are in the works, but the hotel is accepting reservations.

Joplin construction at 4th and Geneva begins

JOPLIN, Mo. – Starting today, July 26, 2021, drivers will see a road closure at 4th and Geneva in Joplin. The closure is just east of Rangline Road and south of North Park Mall. Crews will be working on stormwater drainage to alleviate issues. After they install the pipe, they’ll overlay the road surface.

JOPLIN, Mo. – With the heat index reaching dangerously high levels, the City of Joplin announces it’s opening cooling centers. The centers are open from 8:00am – 5:00pm Monday through Friday.
