Newnan man sentenced to life in 2018 murder case

It took a jury less than eight hours to find Orenthal Jermaine Carroll guilty of the 2018 murder of Adrian Cantrell Sheffield. Thursday night, jurors convicted Carroll of malice murder, felony murder, possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon during the commission of another felony.

Newnan Police Officer William Hull was recently recognized by Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) at their Award Banquet where he was honored along with other officers from different agencies. In 2021, Ofc. Hull completed 38 DUI investigations and was awarded the bronze pin for completing over 25 DUI arrests.

Pizza Hut Shuts Down In Bremen

A national pizza chain has closed its Bremen location. Pizza Hut, at 941 Alabama Avenue, has shut down. Signs on the doors state “Thank you for your patronage. This location is closed. Please visit our Carrollton location.” The restaurant closed its dining room and went to a drive-thru and delivery only model at the beginning of the pandemic. However, the dining room never reopened due to staffing shortages. According to property tax documents the restaurant has been in Bremen since 1991.

The Coweta County Chapter of the NAACP in partnership with local businesses, hosted a Night of Culture in remembrance of Juneteenth. Juneteenth or June 19, marks the day enslaved African Americans in west Texas learned of their freedom. In 1863, during the American Civil War, Pres. Abraham Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation, which declared more than three million slaves living in the Confederate states to be free, according to More than two years would pass, however, before the news reached African Americans living in Texas.
