Two men facing felony gun charges for separate incidents

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — The Wilmington Police Department responded to the 100 block of Dock Street last Friday, May 20th around 10:20 p.m. to serve a warrant. 30-year-old Codey Guerrero was taken into custody without incident and is charged with two counts of Possession of Firearm by a Felon, Disorderly Conduct, Assault and Battery, and Carrying a Concealed Weapon.

Ex-Horry County Deputy Stephen Flood Out of Hospital, Transferred to Prison

70 year old Stephen Flood who was convicted and sentenced to 18 years in prison for the deaths of two women in his custody, is now in the custody of the South Carolina Department of Corrections after being released from the hospital. Flood was admitted to the hospital last Friday after complaining of chest pains. He was treated and released after three days. Flood was booked in the Kirkland State Prison this past Tuesday. His lawyer said during the trial last week, Flood had a heart condition but didn’t go into further details. Flood was convicted in the drowning deaths of 45 year old Wendy Newton of Shallotte, N.C. and 43 year old Nicolette Green of Myrtle Beach who both died inside of a transport van when it was overtaken by floodwaters in Marion County.

Parking fees may increase under final Wilmington proposed budget

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Wilmington City Council held its final work session for the FY23 budget on Friday, May 27. “”The $251 million balanced budget prioritizes new investments in affordable housing, transportation and infrastructure improvements, and delivering equitable core city services,” a release from a city spokesperson says. “It also protects the city’s fund balance, which is critical to emergency response and recovery efforts, and contributes to the city’s consistently high marks from financial ratings agencies like Moody’s and Standard & Poor’s.”
