Milan Man Dead After Shooting Incident in Monmouth

On May 23, 2022 at 7:02pm Monmouth Police responded to a shooting in the 300 block of S. 9th St. A victim, Romel Gilliam 26 of Milan Illinois was found at the scene and was transported to OSF Holy Family Medical Center, where he succumbed to his injuries. This is still an active investigation and MPD is attempting to locate several suspects.

MONMOUTH, Ill — A Milan, Illinois, man died Monday night, May 23 after a shooting in Monmouth, according to a post from the Monmouth Police Department on Facebook. Officers responded just after 7 p.m. Monday to the incident on the 300 block of South 9th Street. Police said 26-year-old Romel Gilliam was found at the scene and transported to OSF Holy Family Medical Center, where he later died as a result of his injuries.

We have some others who go to the congregate meal sites not only for the lunch, but also for the socialization. Those will be at Strom Center in Monmouth, at the Kirkwood Senior Center, the Senior Center in Oquawka, Stronghurst, and then we have added Mercer County, so we will have a site at the Mercer County Senior Center in Aledo. Then we will serve in Alexis Tuesdays and Thursdays and in Roseville on Fridays.”
