Milan Man Dead After Shooting Incident in Monmouth

On May 23, 2022 at 7:02pm Monmouth Police responded to a shooting in the 300 block of S. 9th St. A victim, Romel Gilliam 26 of Milan Illinois was found at the scene and was transported to OSF Holy Family Medical Center, where he succumbed to his injuries. This is still an active investigation and MPD is attempting to locate several suspects.

Monmouth police are seeking information about a shooting Monday that killed a Milan man. Police responded to the 300 block of South Ninth Street around 7 p.m. Romel Gilliam, 26, of Milan, was found at the scene and transported to OSF Holy Family Medical in Monmouth, where he later died.

On Thursday May 19, 2022, at approximately 2:51 a.m. a Hancock County Sheriff’s deputy on patrol conducted a traffic stop on a 2007 GMC truck for an expired registration.

A Busy Summer on Tap for the Jamieson Community Center

Jamieson Community Center Executive Director Nancy Mowen is seeking two congregate meal site managers before reopening in multiple locations this summer for area seniors:. “We currently have about 175 people we are serving lunch to Monday through Friday. Some of the people that we are delivering to, would be able to go to the congregate meal sites. We have some others who go to the congregate meal sites not only for the lunch, but also for the socialization. Those will be at Strom Center in Monmouth, at the Kirkwood Senior Center, the Senior Center in Oquawka, Stronghurst, and then we have added Mercer County, so we will have a site at the Mercer County Senior Center in Aledo. Then we will serve in Alexis Tuesdays and Thursdays and in Roseville on Fridays.”

Alice Pauline Kersey, 76, of Kirkwood, IL, passed away at 3:03 p.m. Sunday, May 22, 2022 at Marigold Rehab and Health Care Center in Galesburg, IL. She was born July 20, 1945 in Monmouth, IL, the daughter of Jake and Evelyn (Ross) Kersey. Pauline was raised and educated in the Kirkwood area graduating from Yorkwood High School in 1963 and later the Burlington School of Business.

She was born August 24, 1940 in East Chicago, IN, the daughter of Walter and Clara Napiwocki. She married Samuel F. Marlow on October 27, 1962 and he preceded her in death on November 8, 2011.
