Elko resident named Miss Nevada Outstanding Teen

RENO -- The Miss Nevada Scholarship Organization introduces the newly crowned Miss Nevada, Heather Renner, and Miss Nevada’s Outstanding Teen, Megan Dwyer. The 22-year-old Renner was crowned the 72nd Miss Nevada on July 1 at Bally’s Lake Tahoe. She was born and raised in Reno and is a current student majoring in theater and double minoring in political science and vocal performance at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas.

Teen Drowns Near Elko, Twin Falls County Dive Team Recover Body

ELKO, Nevada (KLIX)-A 17-year-old drowned while kayaking at a reservoir near Elko Thursday evening. According to the Elko County Sheriff's Office, The young man was kayaking near the north shore of the Southfork Reservoir at around 8 p.m. when the kayak overturned. The teen was not able to get back to the kayak and drowned. Other people in the area tried to get to the teen but were unable to find him under water. Officers with the Nevada State Parks, Nevada Division of Wildlife, and the Elko County Sheriff's Office searched the area in boats and one deputy snorkeled in attempt to locate the body. The Twin Falls County Sheriff's Dive Team responded to assist in the search and was able to recover the teen Friday afternoon.

40-year-old Jessica Duncan dead after a traffic collision on I-80 in Elko (Elko, NV)

Authorities identified 40-year-old Jessica Duncan as the woman who lost her life following a traffic collision on June 18 in Elko. The fatal car crash took place on Interstate 80, 2 miles east of Elko. According to the investigation reports, a combination tractor trailer commercial motor vehicle was heading west on Interstate 80 near mile marker 305 in the right travel lane. On the other hand, a tan Toyota Corolla was going west on Interstate 80 in the left travel lane, approaching the commercial motor vehicle.

Nevada Woman Accused of Operating a M.V. while Impaired by Drugs

VILLAGE OF WEST CARTHAGE-A 27 year old Elko, Nevada woman was arrested for driving while impaired by drugs following an early Monday morning vehicle stop in the Village of West Carthage. New York State Police from the Carthage Barracks charged Jasmin A. Ortiz with one count of Operating a Motor Vehicle while Impaired by Drugs in the 1st degree, a Class U misdemeanor. Ortiz was issued an appearance ticket and will answer the charge in the Village of West Carthage at a later date. The incident was pending investigation as of press time.
