Leroy O. Fischer, 75, of Saint Meinrad, passed away Thursday, June 30, 2022, at Wellington Parc in Owensboro, Kentucky. Leroy was born February 18, 1947, in Saint Meinrad to Oscar and Clara (Waninger) Fischer. He was united in marriage with Deborah Kendall on December 26, 1970, in Saint Meinrad Catholic Church.

Lloyd Ray Southwood Sr, 77, died on Wed., June 29, 2022 at his home. He was born December 8, 1944, in Lamar to Kenneth and Julia (Crews) Southwood. Lloyd was a highly critical fan of the St. Louis Cardinals and Indiana Hoosiers. He was a member of the Mt. Zion Christian Church in Santa Claus, American Legion Post 124 in Ferdinand, and served in the National Guard.

Queen candidates give back

4th of July Queen candidates, Katie Rankin, 2021 4th of July Queen collected items for a new Blessings Box to be set up at the Pekin Town Hall. It is a project by Becky Fraley, who feels the biggest blessings come from helping others. She learned that lesson from her daughter, Shelby, and she is the inspiration for her newest project, a blessings box in Pekin. A new queen will be crowned on 4th of July at 5 p.m. on the stage in the Pekin Park.

Local school districts bracing for more pain at the pump with high fuel prices

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Rising diesel prices have some local school districts feeling more pain at gas pumps as they budget fuel prices for the 2022-23 school year. Across the U.S. and Kentucky, a gallon of diesel fuel averaged $5.78 as of Wednesday, per AAA. That price is almost 10 cents higher in Louisville, where a gallon of diesel fuel averaged $5.87, and about 20 cents higher in Indiana, where the average for a gallon of diesel was $6.02.

Fulda church plans summer picnic August 7

Jackie Wayne (Jack) Dowell, 68 of Brandenburg, died Thursday (06/30) at his home. He is survived by his wife: Marolyn; three sisters: Faye Dowell, Norma Dowell-Morgan and Tammy Haynes; two brothers: Jim and Bob Dowell; a daughter Mary Williams; three step-daughters: Jennifer Clark, Jacki Brown and Jodi Wilkins; 12 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Funeral Services will be held at 3 Eastern Sunday (07/03) afternoon at the Hager Funeral Home in Brandenburg. Burial will follow at Ekron Baptist Church cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home after 10 Sunday morning.
