Due to a growing demand for mental health treatment options across the United States, particularly in rural areas, Memorial Hospital of Carbon County is implementing the MHCC Health and Wellness Center. Services will initially be based from the MHCC Family Practice Clinic in Rawlins and will extend to other clinic locations based on demand. The addition is meant to supplement existing mental health resources already present in Carbon County.

Nine more deaths tied to COVID

CHEYENNE – The deaths of nine more Wyoming residents have been tied to the coronavirus, the Wyoming Department of Health announced Tuesday. The department said the residents of Carbon, Converse, Fremont, Laramie, Lincoln and Sweetwater counties died between December and May, bringing the total number of Wyoming residents whose deaths have been linked to the illness to 734.

At the June 1 meeting of the Board of Carbon County Commissioners (BOCCC), Treasurer Patty Bentsen gave an update on the progress, or lack thereof, the Wyoming County Treasurers Association (WCTA) had made in speaking with the Wyoming Department of Revenue. Fire season begins in Upper Platte Valley of Wyoming

ENCAMPMENT – The first forest fire of 2021 reported in Carbon County is burning in the Sierra Madre Mountains of the Medicine Bow National Forest west of Encampment. Aaron Voos, the public affairs specialist with the U.S. Forest Service Medicine Bow-Routt National Forests and Thunder Basin National Grassland office in Laramie, acknowledged on Monday that there was a “fairly small” fire of approximately 26 acres on the North Fork of the Little Snake River.

Leaving Encampment an All-Star

While the regular football and basketball seasons may be over, Encampment's Dalton Peterson has a busy off-season as he transitions from high school to college. The salutatorian of Encampment's Class of 2021 has already donned pads one last time as he competed in the Six-Man All-Star game this past weekend. He'll get his hands on a basketball this weekend as well as he competed in the Wyoming All-Star Basketball game. Peterson was named to the Six-Man roster in February to the All-Star Roster in May.
