Oregon man uses traffic equipment, homemade sign to collect parking fees, police say

ROSEBURG, Ore. (KPIC) — A 35-year-old Oregon man was charged with using traffic equipment to illegally collect parking fees for himself. According to the Roseburg Police Department report, an investigation revealed the man used an orange traffic cone, an orange protective vest, and a homemade sign on the roadway in an attempt to collect parking fees (or donations) from customers at a famers market.

CITY COUNCIL ADOPTS TENT CAMPING PROGRAM

On Monday, the Roseburg City Council adopted a Tent Camping Program. Information from staff said the plan is to allow tent camping to occur in certain locations in order to provide transitional housing for those in need. In order to host tent camping, a property owner must register their location and comply with the rules for the program. Tent camping is limited to properties operated by a non-profit, public or commercial entity and cannot be located in a residential zone, except for church properties that are already in a residential zone. WINSTON POLICE CHARGE MAN FOLLOWING ALLEGED ELUDE INCIDENT

Winston Police charged a man following an alleged elude incident on Monday night. Sergeant Mike Miller said at just before 10:30 p.m. an officer had a vehicle pass him at just over 100 miles-per-hour in a 55 mile-per-hour zone, in the area of Lookingglass Road and Abraham Avenue. Miller said the officer began pursuing the vehicle. It continued to speed down Lookingglass Road near Timothy before pulling into a driveway and stopping.

ROSEBURG POLICE JAIL MAN FOLLOWING ALLEGED TRESPASS INCIDENT

Roseburg Police jailed a man following an alleged trespass incident on Tuesday. An RPD report said just after 2:40 p.m. a 61-year old was arrested after returning to a business in the 600 block of Southeast Stephens Street after being trespassed earlier in the day. The suspect was charged with second-degree criminal trespass and for a parole violation. He was detained without bail.

DFPA DEALS WITH THREE FIRES BETWEEN MONDAY AND TUESDAY

Crews with the Douglas Forest Protective Association and other agencies dealt with three fires between Monday and Tuesday. Public Information Officer Rachael Pope said Monday just before 5:00 p.m. DFPA, Kellogg Rural Fire District and Elkton Rural Fire Protection District crews responded to a reported grass fire located off Highway 38 near Elkton. Pope said the fire was estimated to be 1/100th of an acre in size and was caused by a downed powerline. The fire was trailed and mop up began just before 6:15 p.m. The scene was just cleared by just after 7:30 p.m.

A Roseburg Police report said at 11:00 p.m. an officer observed a motorcycle fail to come to a complete stop while turning left onto Southeast Washington Avenue from Southeast Spruce Street. The officer attempted a traffic stop, but the motorcyclist began to elude as he headed west on West Harvard Avenue. The officer lost sight of the motorcycle and terminated the pursuit. While searching the area near West Nebo Street, the officer located the motorcycle.
