Wapello County Fair returns to Eldon after COVID-19 hiatus

ELDON, Iowa — The Wapello County Fair has returned to Eldon after a COVID-19 hiatus. Festivities got underway Wednesday. Fairgoers will find plenty of free entertainment this year, including a petting zoo, ninjas warrior obstacle course, butterfly tent and a chainsaw artist. And of course, visitors can get their fill of craft shows, ag shows, carnival rides and funnel cake.

FAIRFIELD — The Greater Jefferson County Foundation has announced a new scholarship that will be available for students going into the health care field. Fairfield residents Edd and Darlene Felgar left $200,000 in their estate to create a new scholarship. The Edd and Darlene Memorial Scholarship will be awarded to up to three qualifying students per year, who will each receive $3,000 toward their studies at Indian Hills Community College. The scholarship is open to students who wish to go into many different areas of health care from medical school to EMT training.

Fairfield Middle School Hosting Jefferson County COVID Clinic

Jefferson County Health Center and Jefferson County Public Health have organized a COVID-19 vaccine clinic Monday at Fairfield Middle School. The clinic will administer the Pfizer vaccine from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. The Pfizer shot was recently approved for children as young as 12. Vaccines will be offered on a walk-in basis. Because this regimen is a two shot series, those who participate are asked to return June 28th for the booster dose. As of May 19th, just one percent of residents under the age of 18 in Jefferson County are vaccinated. The goal of the clinic is to serve 400 patients.
