Rices Fire In Nevada County Now 55% Contained; Several Homes Destroyed

NEVADA COUNTY (CBS13) — The latest on the Rices Fire in Nevada County: There was minimal fire activity overnight which allowed firefighters to increase containment to 45 percent while mopping up hotspots, Cal Fire said in an update Sunday morning. Acreage remains at 904 with full containment still expected Tuesday. Cal Fire reports there are 10 structures threatened at this time, but Sunday’s relatively low winds and temperatures in the 80s will provide more opportunity for firefighting personnel to increase containment and extinguish any remaining hot spots. Arrest made for June shooting in Oroville.

REDDING, Calif. — On June 22, 2022, Oroville Police Department (OPD) responded to a report of a person being shot on Olive Highway at Foothill Blvd. Officers arrived on scene and located the victim; the victim identified as Bobby Rogers was transported to the hospital for medical treatment. Video surveillance footage helped OPD identify a person of interest. A warrant was issued for Jason Allen Kraft of Oroville. OPD located Kraft on Saturday around the area 2990 Oro Dam Blvd. E. in Oroville. Kraft was placed under arrest and booked into Butte County Jail for multiple charges, including Attempted Murder, Assault with a Deadly Weapon, and Possession of a Fireman by a Convicted Felon. NEVADA CITY -- Improving weather helped firefighters stop the spread of a Sierra Nevada wildfire that forced evacuation of several hundred people from their homes and injured 13 firefighters and a civilian, authorities said Thursday.The Rices Fire remained at 904 acres while containment increased to 20%, the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection said.Firefighters were aided by cooler weather and an increase in humidity, Cal Fire said.Injuries from the fire were heat-related problems, such as dehydration, fire officials said.RELATED ARTICLE: Rices Fire: evacuation warnings issued in Yuba CountyThe wildfire began with a building fire Tuesday in Nevada County near the Yuba River.
