Barry man dies after truck hits culvert, overturns

PIKE COUNTY, Ill., (KHQA) — A man from Barry has died in a single vehicle accident that happened around 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, June 17, 2021. The 32-year-old man was driving a Ford F-150 on County Highway 2 westbound in Hadley Township when, for unknown reasons, the truck ran off the roadway, hit a farm field entrance culvert embankment and overturned, according to the Illinois State Police.

According to The Institute for Illinois’ Fiscal Sustainability, Illinois spends about $37,000 a year per incarcerated person. In a study by Prison Policy Initiative, Illinois’ incarceration rate was at 564 per 100,000, higher than every industrialized country, except the United States. When compared with its surrounding states, Illinois was the lowest. Kentucky and Missouri have rates over 850 per 100,000.

A Palmyra man is dead from injuries suffered in a pickup-motorcycle crash on Highway 61 at Geronimo Avenue in Hannibal at 4:40 p.m. Wednesday. The Highway Patrol reports 41 year old Timothy Stewart of Hannibal turned south onto 61 from Geronimo when his pickup was struck by a northbound motorcycle, driven by 33 year old Herman McFall of Palmyra.

The Hancock County Sheriff, Travis Duffy announced on Thursday morning a pair of Methamphetamine related arrests. According to information provided by the Hancock County Sheriff’s Office, a traffic stop was conducted late Wednesday night at approximately 11:39 Pm in Niota, Illinois. Once the traffic stop was initiated, a K9 Officer was called for and the subsequent investigation determined that both driver of the vehicle, 58 year old Scott R Eggleston of Burlington, Iowa and Lisa C Swofford of Polo, Illinois, were found to be in possession of Methamphetamine. Both subjects were arrested and taken to the Hancock County Jail on charges of Possession of Methamphetamine Less than 5 Grams.
