Miles to miss Palmyra Season Opener due to disciplinary action

Rebuild Illinois program to provide funding for LaSalle Veterans’ Home

LASALLE – Facilities at the Department of Veterans’ Affairs statewide are receiving $331 million in capital funding to address emergency and deferred maintenance projects. The LaSalle Veteran’s home will be receiving a portion of that funding, however a bulk of the funds would be directed at the home in Quincy, which will see multiple improvement projects. The plans for the Illinois Veterans’ Home in Quincy include nearly $300 million spent on upgrading buildings, infrastructure, utilities, landscaping, and the demolition of aging buildings and expansion of the campus. The Department of Veterans’ Affairs provides long-term health care, education, mental health, housing, and employment to eligible veterans.

Ulmus Academy has a home

QUINCY — The leadership of the Ulmus Academy has signed a three-year lease to open at a site where thousands of children spent their formative years in elementary school. The Academy agreed to a three-year lease with Rupp Enterprises LLC for the northeast wing of the former Adams Elementary School building at 2001 Jefferson. They will be utilizing ten classrooms to start, with some will be converted to science and math labs, administrative offices, and a cafeteria area.

Hannibal man sentenced to more than five years in prison on gun charge

ST. LOUIS – U.S. District Judge Stephen R. Clark on Monday sentenced a man from Hannibal. who was caught with stolen firearms to five years and three months in prison. The Hannibal Police Department and the Ralls County Sheriff’s Office were investigating the theft of firearms when they located Ronald Allen on Dec. 24, 2020 in a home in Hannibal. Officers found three stolen semi-automatic pistols, drug paraphernalia, prescription pains and marijuana, according to Allen’s plea agreement.

ALTON - Erik Broekemeier thought he got jammed. Good thing the Alton River Dragons designated hitter was wrong. And by being wrong, Broekemeier  turned in the biggest hit of his life. Broekemeier's walk-off grand slam gave the River Dragons an 8-7 victory over the Quincy Gems in the Prospect League's Western Conference championship game at Lloyd Hopkins Field, sending 1,199 fans as well as River Dragons players and coaches into delirium. It also sent the River Dragons into the league championship series beginning Thursday at home against the Eastern Conference champion Chillicothe Paints, a 7-4 winner at the Illinois Valley Pistol Shrimp.
