Fatal crash outside Red Bud on Saturday

What started as a happy occasion quickly turned to a tragedy as an accident killed one and seriously injured another member of a wedding party over the weekend. On the afternoon of Saturday, May 14, Ryne Fithian, 25, of Sparta, and Allison Flynn, 22, of Sparta, had just gotten married and were on their way to their wedding reception with two other members of the wedding party, Chance Karnes, 20, of Herrin, and Destiny Gillihan, 20, of Batesville, AR, in the vehicle.

Motorcycle rider hurt in Jackson County accident

AVA, Ill. (WJPF) – One person was hurt Sunday in a two vehicle accident involving a car and a motorcycle in Jackson County. At about 5:30 p.m., the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office says Zane Ward, 28, of Willisville was driving a motorcycle on the Keller Highway when he tried to pass a car near Redbird Road, outside of Ava.

CAMPBELL HILL, Ill. (WJPF) – One person was hurt in a single vehicle crash Sunday in Jackson County. At about 11:15 p.m., the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office says Jay McMillan, 48, of Ava was driving a Jeep on Brickplant Road near Campbell Hill when a deer ran into the road.

Marion VFW seeks help to erect new sign

MARION -- Marion VFW Post 1301 is a useful asset to the local communities, but its leaders believe that more visibility can increase the services the Post offers. The post is located on Longstreet Road just a few hundred yards east of Route 37. Even though there is a Korean War vintage battle tank that flanks the current sign, the road is still easy to miss.
