The Natchitoches Police Department is investigating a shooting that killed two individuals and injured a third person early Saturday morning. On June 25, 2022 around 2:30 a.m., officers with the Natchitoches Police Department were dispatched to the 5100 block of University Parkway (French Market Express) in reference to a report of gunshots in the area. Upon officers arrival they located Marquis Evans, 21, of Natchitoches, Daniel Williams, 23, of Creston and another individual suffering from gunshot wounds.

Police say officers were called to the French Market Express in the 5100 block of University Parkway around 2:30 a.m. to investigate reports of gunshots in the area. They arrived to find 21-year-old Marquis Evans of Natchitoches and 23-year-old Daniel Williams of Creston, and another unnamed victim suffering from gunshot wounds.

The ordinance up for introduction was to execute a lease with an option to purchase for the lease and eventual purchase of a tract of land (a little over 6 acres) located at 1608 Texas Street (the old John Deere building) from John Barry Guillet for $512,500, said lease providing for a 3 year term with an option to purchase at any time during the term of the lease. The future goal is to bring other businesses to the area and make the Mill District a thriving economic corridor.

The 42nd Annual Natchitoches-NSU Folk Festival has announced the addition of an interactive workshop entitled “Beginning Cajun Guitar,” which will feature instruction by Lafayette-based guitarist and songwriter Yvette Landry with support from fiddler Beau Thomas. The workshop will be held at 12 p.m. on Saturday, July 23 in the N-Club Room of Prather Coliseum on the campus of Northwestern State University in Natchitoches. Guitarists of all experience levels are encouraged to bring their instruments. Admission to the workshop is included with paid admission to the festival. The 42nd Annual Natchitoches-NSU Folk Festival will be held, 9 a.m.-10 p.m., on Saturday, July 23 in Prather Coliseum at 220 South Jefferson Street on the NSU campus. NATCHITOCHES – Northwestern State University’s School of Education received approval for a rate reduction for individuals seeking a Master of Education in Education Leadership and Post Master’s Certificate in Education Leadership. NSU will charge $280 per credit hour for the M.Ed. and PMC, including tuition and fees. The new pricing structure will be available to all students who enroll and are coded as pursuing the Educational Leadership endorsement. The cost adjustment makes NSU’s program more competitive than other educational leadership programs in the region.
