Virginia Martin, 85 of Massac County, IL, passed away on Wednesday, September 22, 2021. Raised on the family farm and being the oldest of a family of five children, Virginia’s character was molded at a young age, doing chores expected of a boy as there were no other children old enough to help on the farm. Like so many farm children of that time, she walked over a mile to a one-room schoolhouse, eager to get an education. As she advanced to high school, a bus to school was available and she graduated from Vienna High School.

John Oehlschlaeger, 82, of Paducah, died at 9:15 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 21, 2021, at his home. John was born in Paducah on Thursday, Sept. 29, 1938, to John and Mary Catherine Oehlschlaeger. He was a 1958 graduate of Culver Military Academy, after which he enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve. He was a retired colonel after 20 years of service in the U.S. Army. He graduated from Samford University School of Pharmacy in 1963 and was the retired owner/operator of G&O Drugs. He was a founding member of Concept Zero, an organization that lobbied to preserve Land Between The Lakes, and served on the Jack Paxton Memorial Scholarship Fund. John was a Master Gardener and a member of First Presbyterian Church.

Mr. Poss was a native of Duluth, Georgia, and the son of the late Clifford Ray and Celia Jane (Stewart) Poss. He was employed by the Road Department of Livingston County, Kentucky. Mr. Poss was of the Baptist faith and a member of Gilbertsville Masonic Lodge No. 835 in Grand Rivers. He was an avid hunter and fisherman.

Larue Mitchell was born May 9, 1925, in Hazel, Kentucky, and peacefully passed away at the age of 96 on July 2, 2021. She was the wife of Melton Decy Mitchel. Shortly after their marriage on Oct. 5 1948, they moved to Michigan where they raised their three children, Linda (Martin) Gabrysiak, Terry (Sue) Mitchell and Karen Mitchell. They retired to Kentucky in 1977. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Murray and was active in children's ministry, and active in the VFW with her husband prior to his death. She enjoyed ceramics, needlepoint, sewing and gardening.

ROATAN, Honduras — Robert Lee Koehler, 71, passed away on Monday, Aug. 30, 2021, at his home on the island of Roatán, Honduras. Robert adored his wife Georgjeana Coffield; they shared a love and devotion that is both rare and precious. He loved the island and the people of Roatán, too. He was always helping others: providing meals, water, assisting local missionaries and the list goes on. His joy for life and compassion to all made an impression on everyone he met. The world is a much dimmer with his passing.

Elwood Turner, 92, of Paducah, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 21, 2021 at Stonecreek Nursing and Rehab Center. Mr. Turner was born Jan. 4, 1929, in Melber, to the late Owen Turner and Myrtie Woods Turner. He retired in 1992 as utility superintendent at Commonwealth Gas Corporation. He owned Turner Appliance Store in the late 1950s and was a journeyman electrician at Warden Electric. Elwood was a dedicated civic leader in his community and was named Ballard County Citizen of the Year in 2007. Elwood was a 70-year member of the Antioch Masonic Lodge. He and his wife were active members of the Ballard County Chamber of Commerce. Elwood was a lifetime member, an elder, a youth leader and adult Sunday school teacher at Bethel Cumberland Presbyterian Church. He will be remembered as a loving husband, father and beloved Daddywood.
