Broken Bow Swimmers Have Big Weekend at Home Meet

The Broken Bow Swim Team hosted its annual “Sprint into Summer” swim meet this past weekend at the Broken Bow Pool. Some of the highlights for the Broken Bow team included Gage Carrizales winning 8 events. Carrizales placed first in the male 9-10 year old 100 meter freestyle, 25 meter breaststroke, 50 meter backstroke, 25 meter freestyle, 100 meter breaststroke, 50 meter freestyle, 25 meter backstroke and 50 meter breaststroke. Shaun Crawford won 9 events. Crawford placed first in the male 13-14 year old 100 meter freestyle, 50 meter backstroke, 200 meter backstroke, 200 meter freestyle, 50 meter freestyle, 25 meter backstroke, 50 meter breaststroke, 100 meter backstroke, and 200 meter individual medley. Zak Crawford won 3 events. Crawford placed first in the male 15 and over 25 meter breaststroke, 25 meter freestyle, and 50 meter freestyle. Brent Forster won 5 events.

Broken Bow Spirit Softball Competes at Home Tournament

The 4th annual Spirit of the Sandhills Softball Tournament took place in Broken Bow this past weekend. The Bow Spirit team had a strong showing in the 14U division winning the silver bracket. Bow went 2-0 on Friday with wins over the Dannebrog Sentinels 12-7 and the Columbus Havoc-Belina 8-5. On Saturday, Broken Bow faced the Dannebrog Sentinels again but this time the Sentinels came out on top 8-6. That dropped the Spirit into the silver bracket where they faced Prodigy Hazen and won 3-1. Broken Bow would face Prodigy Harmon for the Silver Bracket championship. Broken Bow won the silver bracket championship game 3-2. Gold medal Bracket champion was Scorpions Black winning over the St. Paul Wildcats 5-1 in the championship game.

19-year-old Brady man charged with sexual assault for allegedly having sex with teen

A 19-year-old Brady man is charged with a felony after he allegedly had sex with a teenage girl on multiple occasions over a four-month period. Hunter D. Lovitt made an initial appearance in Lincoln County Court on Monday afternoon. He is charged with first-degree sexual assault of a minor. The Class 2 felony carries a 50-year maximum sentence in Nebraska.

Bow Seniors Go 3-2 at Alliance Tournament

The Broken Bow American Legion seniors baseball team competed at the Alliance tournament over the weekend going 3-2. Bow faced York in their opening game on Friday. It was a high scoring affair with Broken Bow coming out on top 14-12. York led 12-7 after five innings but Broken Bow would score 5 runs in the sixth to tie the game then scored two more in the 7th to complete the comeback. The Bow seniors pounded out 18 hits in the game. Austin Harvey and Max Denson were each 3 for 5 in the game. Brody Ridder and Eli Coble led the team in RBI with 3 each.

Lincoln County 19-Year-Old Charged with Sexual Assault of Teen

A 19-Year-Old Lincoln County man has been charged with a felony after allegedly having sex with a teenage girl on multiple occasions throughout a four month period. Hunter Lovitt made an initial appearance in Lincoln County County Monday afternoon. The Brady resident has been charged with first degree sexual assault of a minor. The investigation in the case began earlier this month, Lovitt was arrested Friday and lodged in the Lincoln County Detention Center. A preliminary hearing has been scheduled for July 21st.

Two Broken Bow Men Sentenced in District Court

BROKEN BOW – The Custer County District Court handed down sentences to two Broken Bow residents on Thursday, June 23. Kenneth Loucks, 44, appeared in court for allegedly violating probation. Loucks admitted to the probation violation. Judge Noakes sentenced him to 90 days in jail with credit for 8 days served, following the proposed plea agreement. He will report to jail Friday, July 1 at 9 a.m.

The Broken Bow swim team will host its annual swim meet this weekend. The Broken Bow swim team is under the direction of coach Shawn Morris who is in his 19th year with the team. Broken Bow has 55 swimmers on the team this year ranging from ages 6-16. Coach Morris visited with KCNI/KBBN radio about this year’s team and about the swim meet taking place this weekend.
