Lloyd Earl “Bucky” Chatham, 78, of Seadrift, passed away May 31, 2021. He was born April 8, 1943 in El Paso to Charles P. Chatham and Mary M. Chatham. Bucky had many passions in life, hunting, fishing, traveling, diving, rowing many years in the Texas Water Safari, volunteering at the Calhoun County Humane Society, his family and many friends he met along the way. He was blessed to have worked doing what he loved and retired as a commercial fisherman.

MMC sees another positive month

Memorial Medical Center saw another positive month in April, thanks in part to a modification to the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act. The sound of airboat gave hope in near drowning incident

A Flatonia man and a 49-year-old Port Lavaca man nearly drowned while saving an 11-year-old girl at Sunday Beach on Matagorda Island during the Memorial Day holiday. Stephen Kosler, 41, of Flatonia, his family, and friends were on the island Monday enjoying the long holiday weekend. He said the children went ahead on the gulf side of the beach and went in the water before the adults arrived.

New Calhoun Port Authority chairman makes board appointments

POINT COMFORT—The Calhoun Port Authority’s newly elected board chairman appointed board members to serve on several new committees Wednesday. Luis De La Garza, who was elected to serve as board chairman in mid-May, created five new committees that he said he hopes will help the port operate less as “an island” by encouraging the board to learn from the expansions and operations at larger ports, such as the Port of Corpus Christi and the Port of Houston.
