Mize steps down as Weaver's soccer coach

Chelsea Mize has been a Calhoun County and state coach of the year in soccer, but she’ll focus more on another title during springs to come … mom. Mize announced on Facebook on Friday that she’s stepping down after leading both of Weaver’s soccer programs. She’ll continue to coach volleyball in the fall.

Trial for 2015 murder of Anniston man begins

A Calhoun County jury Tuesday heard forensic evidence from the state in the trial of an Anniston man charged with a 2015 murder. Anthony Tyrone Jackson, currently 64, was charged in the death of Ronald Lynn Young, 37, of Anniston, in 2015. Young was pronounced dead outside the 50 Cent Bar on the 3100 block of West 12th Street at 3:45 a.m. on Jan. 24. Young was found “brutally stabbed to death,” with 135-150 stab wounds. There were no witnesses in what the state concedes is a circumstantial case, according to the Assistant District Attorney Dave Johnston.

Calhoun County deputy retires; worked 13,000 hours for FREE

CALHOUN, Ala. (WBRC) - “Well done faithful servant!” That was part of the post Calhoun County Sheriff Matthew Wade made for retired deputy Larry Love. Wade said Love served the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Department and the county for free. He served over 13,000 hours without pay as a deputy.
