The Calgary Flames played a much lower-scoring game with the Edmonton Oilers in Game 2 of their playoff series, in that the teams combined for eight goals instead of 15. The Flames had leads of 2-0 and 3-1, but the pesky Oilers kept coming at them. A couple third period breakaways were the difference in a 5-3 Oilers win to tie the best-of-seven series at one game apiece.

After a track meet in Game 1 where the Calgary Flames and the Edmonton Oilers both played fairly poorly, we got a Game 2 where the teams were various degrees of good in most game situations. In a game punctuated by a lot of special teams play, with advantages skewed towards the visitors, the Oilers battled to a 5-3 victory over the Flames in Game 2.

May 19 (UPI) -- Left wing Matthew Tkachuk scored three goals to help the Calgary Flames beat the Edmonton Oilers 9-6 in Game 1 of their Western Conference semifinal series. The Flames blew a four-goal lead, but scored three times in the third period of the hockey triumph Wednesday at Scotiabank Saddledome in Calgary, Alberta. Flames center Blake Coleman scored twice in the victory. Left wing Andrew Mangiapane chipped in a goal and two assists.
