Police arrest homeless man in Parkersburg robbery

PARKERSBURG — A man was charged with robbery of a 10th Street residence in an incident that occurred on Tuesday, the Parkersburg Police Department said. Officers accused Thomas Malone Jr., 21, homeless, after responding shortly before 1 a.m. to a residence on 10th Street where a man said he was assaulted and items were taken from the residence, police said. The victim stated he was lying in bed when he was struck on the head with an object was later determined to be his walking cane, police said.

Marietta College mourns student death

MARIETTA — A woman killed in a flash flood in Wetzel County last week is being mourned at Marietta College where she was a sophomore. Alyssa Zaulda, 20, on June 14 was attempting to get to higher ground when she was swept away by rising water from Little Fishing Creek near Wileyville, according to Wetzel County Sheriff Mike Koontz. The incident occurred around 10:45 a.m. after a severe storm occurred from 9:30 to 10 a.m. in the Wileyville area, causing the flash flooding in Little Fishing Creek, Koontz said.

Two men facing charges in separate copper thefts

PARKERSBURG — Two men were arrested by the Parkersburg Police Department from an investigation into the theft of copper, the police department said on Thursday. On Monday, officers began an investigation into the theft of copper from air conditioning units at Cornerstone Health Care, the department said. As a result of the copper being cut, three air conditioning units were destroyed with an estimated replacement cost of more than $15,000, the department said.
