Wolfpack Youth Camp taking registrations

Woodland High School Football Program is currently seeking youth in grades K-8 to signup for their Wolfpack Youth Camp. The camp will be held on Thursday, June 10 at 6 p.m. at the Woodland High School football stadium. Varsity football coaches will instruct campers on proper tackling technique, running and throwing mechanics and speed and agility fundamentals. ALBANY – For Schley County senior distance runner David Williams and his Wildcat teammates, the results of the 2021 GHSA Track and Field State Meet on Saturday, May 15 turned out to be the culmination of not only a season of hard work and perseverance, but also the culmination of four years of dedication and pains-taking discipline. Williams realized his four-year dream of becoming a state champion by winning the 800 Meter Run and as a result, led the Wildcats to a tie for third place with Washington-Wilkes (WW) with 46 points in the final GHSA Class A-Public standings at Hugh Mills Stadium in Albany.

Americus-Sumter football team springs forward with spring game against Marion County

AMERICUS – The Americus-Sumter High School Football Team (ASHS) concluded its spring practices and sprung forward towards the upcoming 2021 season with their spring game against the Eagles of Marion County (MC). It has been two years since the Panthers, along with the Eagles and other teams around the state, took part in a spring game due to the COVID-19 Pandemic, which made it even more exciting for both teams. However, the Panthers fell behind early in the first half and struggled against the Eagles, particularly on offense. They were able to crawl their way back in the game in the fourth quarter, but still came up short. As a result, MC left Alton Shell Stadium with a 31-13 win over the Panthers in the ASHS Spring Football Game.

Schley County Wildcats fall to Metter in state quarterfinals

METTER, GA – After defeating Crawford County to advance to the quarterfinals of the GHSA Class A-Public State Playoffs, the Schley County High School Baseball Team (SCHS) made the 150-mile journey to Metter, GA on Monday, May 10 to engage in an Elite 8 catfight with the Metter Tigers (MHS). However, due in large part to the dominating pitching performances of MHS starting pitchers John Luke Glanton and Brian Crooms, the Wildcats’ dreams of making it back to the state championship finals in Savannah were dashed as the Tigers defeated SCHS 2-1 and 6-0 to end the Wildcats’ season.

Schley County track and field teams win sectional championships

CAMILLA, GA – Both the Schley County Wildcat and Lady Wildcat track and field teams went down to Camilla on Saturday, May 8 and emerged as sectional champions at the GHSA Class A-Public Sectional Meet at Mitchell County High School. The Wildcats finished a top the standings with 109 points and finished 54 points ahead of meet runners-up Metter. On the girls’ side, the Lady Wildcats won the sectional meet with 71 points and finished 13 points ahead of the Lady Tigers of Metter, who were the meet runners-up. The top eight finishers in each event will move on to the GHSA Class A-Public State Meet in Albany this coming weekend and both the Wildcats and Lady Wildcats will be well represented. In almost every event, both the SCHS girls’ and boys’ squads had athletes that finished in the top eight and qualified for State.
