Pasco County shooting kills 1, injures 2

Three people were shot, one fatally, in the Dade City area Wednesday afternoon, the Pasco County Sheriff’s Office reported. The shooting occurred about 1 p.m. in the Johns Road area of Dade City. Several people who were “known to each” got into an argument, and one person started shooting, sheriff’s officials said in a news release.

Man caught trying to run checkout scam at Leesburg Walmart

A 57-year-old Fruitland Park man was arrested after he allegedly tried to leave Walmart without paying for more than $150 worth of merchandise. Shortly before 9 p.m. Tuesday, a Leesburg police officer responded to the store at 2501 Citrus Blvd, where a security employee had detained Thomas James Nitzke, of 1033 Atlantic Ave. The employee told the officer he was watching on store surveillance cameras when Nitzke started scanning items in his shopping cart, according to the police report.

Texting driver jailed after heroin found under her seat

A Belleview woman was arrested on drug charges Tuesday night after being pulled over for texting while driving and having an altered temporary license tag. Christina Caridao Piedra, 39, of 7730 SE 110th St. Road, was charged with possession of a controlled substance (heroin) without a prescription, possession of drug equipment, driving with a suspended license, and misuse of a temporary tag to avoid registering a vehicle.

Father charged with son’s brain injury jailed after failure to pay child support

A father charged with his infant son’s brain injury was arrested after he was caught driving on a license suspended due to his failure to pay child support. Drew Wyatt Oldenburg, 28, who is homeless, was driving a white Chevrolet Aveo at 9:11 a.m. Tuesday in Lake Panasoffkee when he was pulled over by a Sumter County sheriff’s deputy who discovered the vehicle’s registered owner’s license has been suspended. The deputy’s computer check showed that Oldenburg has had multiple suspensions for failure to pay child support. The most recent suspension was effective as of Jan. 31. Oldenburg was given notice on Jan. 11 that another suspension was in the offing.

Boating incident in Floral City kills one; FWC's investigation ongoing

A person died and a few others were hospitalized from a boating incident Tuesday evening, May 17, in the Floral City area. “The investigation is active,” Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) spokeswoman Karen Parker said Wednesday afternoon, “and I don’t have any further details about it at this point.”

Financial planner from Parkwood arrested on DUI charge after hit-and-run crash

A financial planner from the Villages of Parkwood was arrested on drunk driving charge after a hit-and-run crash at Wawa. A law enforcement officer was flagged down at about 6:30 p.m. at the Wawa at U.S. 301 and County Road 466 after a crash, according to an arrest report from the Wildwood Police Department.

Hernando man arrested for threatening, cutting teen with knife for not studying

A Hernando man is accused of using a kitchen knife to threaten and cut a teenage boy for not studying. Citrus County Sheriff’s Office deputies arrested 41-year-old Javier Reyes Cruz the night of Tuesday, May 10, on charges of aggravated battery, child abuse, and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. Court records show Reyes Cruz pleaded not guilty to the allegations.

On 05-16-2022 at 6:25 a.m., Hernando County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a residence on Linden Drive in Spring Hill in reference to a residential burglary. The victim reported an unknown individual had entered her vehicle while it was parked in the garage and had removed her wallet. The wallet contained numerous credit cards and personal identification.

An unlicensed driver from Mexico in an unregistered vehicle was nabbed near Water Oak on U.S. Hwy. 27/441 in Lady Lake. Carlos Alberto Munoz Herrera, 35, of Fruitland Park, shortly before 7 a.m. Tuesday was driving a white 2000 Chevrolet truck heading north on U.S. Hwy. 27/441 at County Road 466 when an officer ran the license plate and discovered it was registered to another vehicle, according to an arrest report from the Lady Lake Police Department.
