Funeral services for Elizabeth Carol Nearhoof, 87, of Jefferson will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, July 1 at the First United Methodist Church in Jefferson, with visitation beginning at 9:45 a.m. Following the service, a luncheon will be served at the church. A Carroll man face charges in Greene County District Court after causing a disturbance in downtown Jefferson Saturday evening. The Jefferson Police Department was dispatched to the intersection of Lincoln Way and Vine Street at approximately 8:40 p.m. in response to a report to the dispatch center of a subject harassing people in the area. Upon arrival, law enforcement made contact with the individual and identified him as 45-year-old Anthony Lee Kies. Authorities say Kies refused to comply with the officer’s commands, and he was taken into custody. Kies was booked into the Greene County Law Enforcement Center on charges of disorderly conduct and interference with official acts, simple misdemeanors.

A Jefferson woman was recently sentenced to probation for her role in a drug network investigation. According to court documents, 39-year-old Tanisha Dillinger pled guilty to an amended charge Class C Felony for intent to deliver methamphetamine under five grams. The original charge was a felony for conspiring to manufacture or possess methamphetamine with intent to deliver. As per a plea agreement, she had a ten year prison sentence suspended and was placed on probation for three years.

The Ames softball team went 5-3 and the Little Cyclone baseball team finished 3-2 last week. The softball team saw its record go to 17-14 and the baseball team 16-14. The Gilbert baseball team defeated Carlisle and fell to Bondurant-Farrar and Boone in going to 13-8 on the season. The Tiger softball team split with Humboldt and Ames and suffered losses to Bondurant-Farrar, Adel-Desoto-Minburn, Carlisle and Boone in going to 10-14.

BOONE, Iowa—Donald Lawrence Shaw, 96, devoted husband, father, grandfather, and brother passed away peacefully in his sleep on March 14, 2022. For years when players from opposing football teams would stand on the sidelines and look across Linduska Field in Jefferson, they might think the opposing players had no feet or ankles. Needless to say, the crown on the field was rather pronounced. Earlier this summer, the crown and sod were taken off Linduska field and replaced with a much lower crown, a completely new drainage system, and new sod. With the first varsity football game scheduled for two months from today, it’s going to take more than a little water and perhaps some TLC, but school officials expect the field to be ready to go on Aug. 26 when Greene County faces ACGC.
