BUTLER COUNTY —A Kansas man identified in a Silver Alert has been tracked to eastern Texas. Joseph Moody Hayes' phone was pinged as recently as a few days ago in the New Boston area of Bowie County Texas, according to a social media report from the Texarkana, Texas Police Department.

TOPEKA, Kansas — COVID cases are spiking so much in a Kansas prison that inmates are being transferred to other facilities. Corrections records confirmed 55 positive cases at the El Dorado men’s prison as of June 26, according to the Kansas Department of Corrections. El Dorado has a minimum and medium unit in Oswego, and the corrections department said people from Oswego were being transferred. There are 14 positive cases among staff.

NEWTON, Kan. — KDOT says work will resume next week on the ramp from westbound U.S. 50 to southbound I-135 in Newton. From Tuesday, July 5, at 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Friday, July 8, traffic on the ramp will be narrowed and controlled by flaggers during daytime hours. Motorists should expect delays of up to 15 minutes. There will be a width restriction of 11 feet. The work is part of a continuing ramp-pavement patching project on I-135 ramps at First Street and Broadway in Newton and on U.S. 50/I-135 interchanges on the south and north sides of Newton.

TEXARKANA, Texas (KTAL/KMSS) – Police in Texarkana, Texas are asking the public for help finding a missing man from Kansas who may be in the Texarkana area. According to police, 71-year-old Joseph Hayes was last seen leaving his house in Towanda, Kansas on June 20 to head towards Anniston, Alabama. Hayes’ family says he talked to them on the phone after he somehow got turned around in Fort Worth, Texas.

The search continues for a missing man from Towanda. 71-year-old Joseph Hayes hasn’t been heard from since Sunday. Family say he’d been lost in Texas after going to visit family in Alabama. Hayes was supposedly headed back to Kansas, but never made it home. Texas police say his phone was tracked near the eastern border, headed toward Arkansas, but that was a couple days ago and nobody has been in contact with Hayes since. He’s driving a black 2014 Dodge Ram truck with Kansas license plate 576-HZW.
