Michigan man's $500,000 lottery ticket nearly ended up in trash

June 18 (UPI) -- A Michigan man said the scratch-off lottery ticket that earned him a $500,000 jackpot nearly ended up in the trash when he misread it as a losing ticket. The 74-year-old Grand Rapids man told Michigan Lottery officials he bought a few $500,000 Jumbo Cash tickets from the Meijer gas station in Grand Rapids and they nearly all ended up in the trash before he realized he had missed an important detail.

Man arrested after armed party store robbery in Kentwood

KENTWOOD, Mich — An arrest has been made in connection to an armed robbery at a Kentwood party store, police say. The incident happened at around 9:15 a.m. Friday at TJ Party Store, located at 2882 Shaffer Avenue SE. A witness told police that the suspect showed a handgun and took money from the store before leaving on foot. Nobody was injured in the incident.

Four brazen thieves who targeted two Benton Township mobile phone stores within minutes of one another in armed robberies are being held in the Berrien County Jail after they were apprehended following a police chase that ended when their car crashed in a construction zone on the Kalamazoo River Bridge project near Saugatuck. The four were from Grand Rapids, Kentwood and Muskegon according to Benton Township Police Detective Lt. Michael DenDooven.

Massive Shooting in Grand Rapids Park

Shots fired at a Grand Rapids park over the weekend of June 12 still have police scratching their heads on trying to find out just who was involved. According to MLive, Grand Rapids police Sargent Dan Adams said, "officers recovered 118 shell casings from the scene." Police think as many as 20 people were involved in the shooting that left three injured at the Sixth Street Park early Saturday morning around 3:55 a.m.

1 dead in 2-vehicle crash in Allegan County

ALLEGAN COUNTY, Mich. — A two-vehicle crash in Monterey Township left one person dead and one person injured Wednesday evening. Michigan State Police said it occurred around 5:45 p.m. at the intersection of 134th Avenue and 26th Street. Police say a Chevrolet pickup truck failed to stop at a stop sign and struck a GMC pickup truck that was traveling westbound on 134th Avenue.
