Burlington man plans to use $10 million lottery prize to help family

BURLINGTON, N.C. — A truck driver from Burlington is planning to use his $10 million lottery prize to help his family. Howard Poole's good luck started when he stopped by the Sandy Cross Mart 2 on North Carolina Highway 49 in Burlington. He collected a $20 scratch-off prize and decided to try again with a $30 ticket.

Man shot in Orange County Thursday dies at hospital

Mebane, N.C. — A man died after being shot in the abdomen in Orange County on Thursday. The Orange County Sheriff’s Office responded to Alice Miller Road off Richmond Road in Efland this afternoon just before 5 p.m. in response to a call about a gunshot and discovered the man who had been shot. The man was transported to Duke Hospital, where he died.

Deputies with the Orange County Sheriff’s Office responded to Alice Miller Road off Richmond Road in Efland Thursday afternoon just before 5:00 p.m. in response to a call about a gunshot. Deputies located a man suffering from a wound to the abdomen. He was transported to Duke Hospital where he died.
