Final plea in meth conspiracy

The final defendant in a federal methamphetamine conspiracy case has entered a guilty plea. According to reports, on June 17, 38 year-old Ned Davis of Paintsville, pleaded guilty to charges of conspiracy to distribute 500 grams or more of methamphetamine and possession of a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking offense. Davon Blackford, 41, of Lexington and Megan Stacy, 28 Swamp Branch have also pleaded guily to the same charge. Between March 2021 and Dec. 3, Ned Davis developed a relationship with a methamphetamine supplier and obtained 500 grams or more of the drug and distributed throughout the Johnson Co area.

Heavy rain, gusty winds possible as cold front moves through

HAZARD, Ky. (WYMT) - Scattered showers and thunderstorms stick around to close out the weekend. Some storms could be strong with heavy rain and gusty winds. Trial for accused doctor delayed until February

PIKEVILLE, Ky. — The federal drug and fraud trial of a Paintsville doctor has been delayed for seven months. Dr. Loey Kousa was indicted back in April on five counts of unlawful distribution of controlled substances, two counts of health care fraud, and two counts of making false statements. He is accused of unnecessarily prescribing opioids to patients, then requiring them to undergo medically unnecessary tests and lying about them on health records.

Levisa Fork Paddlefest makes its way to Dewey Lake

Rainbow Bridge 5K raises $16K for animal shelter

Floyd County came one step closer to realizing the dream of a new animal shelter, as the first-ever Rainbow Bridge 5K Run/Walk was held June 18 in Prestonsburg. Money raised during the event will go towards the construction of a new animal shelter in Floyd County. The event featured food vendors, live music and an auction.

Matt Tackett Named President of Southern Economic Development Council

This month, the Southern Economic Development Center (SEDC), North America's oldest and largest professional association for economic development, named Morehead State University alumnus Matt Tackett (Class of 2005, 2007) its president. He will be replacing retiring president Gene Stinson and implementing the organization's mission to provide information, guidance and leadership to the American South's economic development practitioners.

Floyd Co Sex Offender Arrested Again

A Floyd Co man has been arrested after failure to comply with his sex offender registration. According to reports, 59 year-old Larry Martin of Prestonsburg, was charged back in 2021 of sexually abusing a child under the age of 12. He pleaded guilty in February to a lesser charge of unlawful transaction with a minor and was sentenced to time served, but required to register as a sex offender for the next 20 years. Martin was arrested this past Monday and was charged with failure to comply with sex offender registration. There has been no information released on how he allegedly failed to comply with his sex offender registry, but he was lodged in the Big Sandy Regional Detention Center in Paintsville.
