Bulldogs Are Once Again Class 4A Champs

Congratulations to the Independence Bulldog Tennis team for capturing the 4A State Championship for the 2nd year in a row. The team was led by a championship performance from Brecken Bertie and Camdon Julian in the doubles bracket at T.H. Vaughn tennis courts in Winfield Saturday. Additionally, Kale Groff was runner-up in the singles bracket. This is the 5th state title in the IHS boys tennis program history.

By Tracy McCue, Sumner Newscow — The word “tiebreaker” is probably profanity to the 2022 Wellington High School boys tennis team. Wellington finished fourth as a team, losing the tiebreaker to Topeka Hayden for third place and getting them a team trophy at the Class 4A State Tournament in Winfield Saturday. That’s one week after losing a “tiebreaker” for the regional championship in Wellington.
